General information:
– A minimum of one part cement to 4 parts concrete sand is used in the concrete mix. This provides a consistently high strength concrete edging.
– Concrete edging takes approximately 28 days to cure (dry and harden).
– Control joints are installed every 2 feet. This allows the edging to crack in a controlled way due to stress caused by ground movement. Note: Most notable stressing will appear when the ground is thawing after a winter.
– The concrete coloring is mixed into the sand and cement, verses spread across the surface. This ensures the color will be present throughout the edging product in case of damage.
– There may be slight color variances even after curing has taken place, this is normal for all colored concrete products. Note: Color splotching may be present during the curing process.
– Efflorescence (white, power substance) can appear on occasion on the edging. This is caused when soluble salts and other water dispersible materials come to the surface of concrete and mortars.
Care of newly installed edging:
– Keep pets, children, and objects away from the edging for at least 24 hours. It will be hard; to the touch at this point, but still needs to cure. The curing process takes approximately 28 days.
– DO NOT use sprinklers around the edging for at least 48 hours.
– Sod laying, sprinkler and landscape work can be started 48-72 hours after installation; however, caution must be taken as shovel, picks, wheelbarrows, and other tools can damage the curb until the edging has cured.
– If wheelbarrows are used for hauling materials over the edging put a mound of dirt at least 6 inches deep or build a ramp over the edging to protect the edging from damage. Never allow a bobcat, tractor, or automobile to run over the edging.
– Nicks and scratches can occur when mowing. Stay away from the border during the curing process
Warranty:
– All new concrete edging has a one-year warranty from the installation date against defects in workmanship, or materials.
– It will be replaced at no charge if the defect is caused by workmanship, or the materials used, or the way it was installed.
– We do not guarantee against concrete cracking.
– If determined that the edging was damaged and was not a part of Beautiful Borders, LLP workmanship or installation, we will come back and make the necessary repairs. There is a minimum charge for this service.
